About dhoard

Hi. You've clicked the PawSox blog of broadcaster Dan Hoard. That's me along with my adorable son Sam (I'm the bald one). My fabulous wife Peg obviously gets all of the credit for Sam's good looks. I joined the PawSox organization in 2006 after spending a decade in Cincinnati as a sports anchor/reporter for WXIX-TV and the host of the Cincinnati Reds pre-game show on Fox Sports Ohio. When I'm not broadcasting PawSox baseball in the summer. I remain the radio voice for University of Cincinnati football and basketball on "The Nation's Station" 700-WLW. If you enjoy this blog (or really have a ton of time on your hands), you can check out a similar column I write about UC sports at gobearcats.com -- you'll find a "Heard it from Hoard" link on the home page. I grew up in Lakewood, New York, a small town on the southwest tip of New York State and attended Syracuse University. A month before graduation I was hired as a minor league announcer for the Syracuse Chiefs of the International League. I spent several years in radio as the Sports Director at WSYR-AM, before getting into TV at WTVH-5, the CBS affiliate in Syracuse (for you trivia buffs, the person most responsible for hiring me was Mike Tirico of ESPN fame). My professional dream has always been to broadcast major league baseball and the PawSox have sent several announcers to the majors including the Gary Cohen, Don Orsillo, Andy Freed, Dave Flemming, and Dave Jageler. I've had the opportunity to call games at the major league level for the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, and Toronto Blue Jays. I welcome your comments, suggestions, and criticisms. Thanks for checking out the blog.
